    Showdown in Iowa: DeSantis and Haley Navigate the GOP Landscape in CNN Town Hall Face-Off

    These two are facing off in hopes of becoming Trump’s VP.  Haley is rumored to be the Deep State choice. But DeSantis is not giving up as donors abandon him.


    It was disrespectful for Nikki Haley to say that Iowans’ votes need to be “corrected.” Haley thinks she is above hardworking Iowans. I’m proud to have visited all 99 Iowa counties and to have met so many great Iowans along the way.

    Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley are set to participate in consecutive town-hall-style meetings in Iowa on January 4, just 11 days before the Iowa caucuses, the nation’s first presidential nominating contest. CNN is organizing the event, featuring the two prominent Republicans who have posed a significant challenge to former President Donald Trump, who maintains a substantial lead in national and Iowa polls.

    As the frontrunner for the GOP, President Trump has notably refrained from engaging in Republican debates and has participated in only a handful of events alongside multiple candidates. Instead of focusing on internal party dynamics, DeSantis and Haley have directed their campaigns against President Joe Biden while on the political trail. However, as the GOP field narrows and voters finalize their choices, the upcoming event provides an opportunity for them to distinguish themselves from each other and from Trump.  Continued below the Noem clip

    Here’s why I’m NOT supporting Ron DeSantis or Nikki Haley…

    DeSantis, during a December 12 event, highlighted differences between his policies as governor and those of Trump, particularly on issues such as the border crisis, inflation, the pandemic, and abortion. He criticized Trump’s handling of the border crisis, stating that if a border wall had been built, it would have made it difficult for Biden to allow an influx of people. Regarding the pandemic and inflation, DeSantis criticized the decision to shut down the country and print trillions of dollars.

    Similarly, Nikki Haley has sought to position herself against Trump without explicitly criticizing his policies or character. In a December 9 televised interview, she emphasized the need to focus on new solutions and not dwell on the negativity and baggage of the past.     The current national polls, as of January 3, indicate Trump leading with 62 percent support, followed by DeSantis at 12 percent, Haley at 11 percent, and tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy at 5 percent. In Iowa, Trump maintains a significant lead with 50 percent support, while DeSantis stands at 18 percent, Haley at 16 percent, and Ramaswamy at 6 percent. Despite Trump’s dominance, Haley’s support has been rising, especially in New Hampshire.

    A December 21 poll in New Hampshire showed Haley narrowing the gap, with 33 percent support for Trump and 29 percent for her. In response to an earlier poll where she trailed Trump by 15 points, Haley remarked on social media, suggesting that Trump’s negative ad against her indicated nervousness about her increasing support.

    DeSantis has been dismissive of poll results, asserting that voters, not pundits or pollsters, make decisions. He expressed frustration during a December 6 Republican debate in Alabama, stating he was tired of hearing about polls.

    The upcoming town-hall-style meeting in Iowa presents a unique format allowing candidates to interact directly with voters without interruptions from other candidates. However, the format also carries risks, as unanticipated questions can catch candidates off guard. Haley experienced this in a December 27 town hall in New Hampshire when asked about the cause of the Civil War. She initially fumbled for an answer but later clarified that the Civil War was indeed about slavery.

    DeSantis faced a similar situation during a June 27 event in New Hampshire when questioned about whether Trump had violated the peaceful transfer of power. His response seemed evasive, emphasizing the need to move forward rather than dwelling on the past.
