Barr addressed growing criticism regarding the treatment of Jan. 6 defendants, acknowledging that some individuals, particularly those who attacked police and breached the Capitol, deserve prosecution. However, he argued that the DOJ cast its net too broadly, extending scrutiny to individuals who may have unintentionally found themselves in the Capitol building. “To date, over 1,200 people have faced charges related to the Capitol incident, ranging from trespassing to more serious offenses like seditious conspiracy and assaulting police officers. Approximately 750 have been sentenced, with nearly two-thirds receiving prison time,” Barr highlighted, pointing out the scale of legal actions taken against those involved. We all know that game though. Keep a man in solitary confinement for 3 years now and you are bound to crack some, who will say and do anything to get out. Human beings are not made for solitary confinement.
The former Proud Boys national chairman, Enrique Tarrio, received the longest sentence of 22 years for seditious conspiracy. Despite these sentences, dozens of Jan. 6 detainees remain in jail awaiting trial three years after the incident. And Tarrio wasn’t even there.
