    In a scathing critique, former President Donald Trump called for the immediate termination of Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, accusing him of improper professional conduct and dereliction of duty. The criticism comes in the wake of a scandal surrounding Austin’s ‘secretive’ hospital stay, during which he failed to disclose his incapacitation for four days to the White House.

    On Monday, Trump took to Truth Social, asserting, “Failed Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin should be fired immediately for improper professional conduct and dereliction of duty. He has been missing for one week, and nobody, including his boss, Crooked Joe Biden, had a clue as to where he was, or might be.”

    ‘As titillating as the news (gossip?) is that Lloyd Austin was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which evidently led to a medical surgery gone awry, the reason why Secretary of Defense Llyod Austin was hospitalized isn’t relevant to the issue at hand. The truth is that he went AWOL. He failed in his duty as Defense Secretary to ensure that the chain of command was secure and that the proper people were notified that he was unable to discharge his duties. Both the White House and the DoD protocols to protect our country in case of incapacitation of a key White House Cabinet member apparently failed the American people.     Austin, a 70-year-old Pentagon chief and career Army general, underwent complications from a routine surgery, leading to his hospitalization since January 1. However, the White House remained unaware of his absence from the top Pentagon post until Friday, raising concerns about transparency in the Biden administration. Austin, in a statement, acknowledged, “I recognize I could have done a better job ensuring the public was appropriately informed,” while asserting that he had been working from his hospital bed since Friday.

    The scandal has triggered major embarrassment for an administration that prides itself on professionalism, communication, and teamwork. Politico’s interviews with top officials involved in the situation revealed widespread concern and questions about Austin’s future in the role. Some officials openly questioned why such a blunder occurred at a critical time when the administration was dealing with significant international conflicts.

    Arnold Punaro, a retired Marine Corps major general and former staff director of the Senate Armed Services Committee, remarked, “At a time when the administration is trying to keep the Ukraine coalition together, pass supplemental funding for Ukraine and Israel, avoid a full-year [continuing resolution] for defense — why would the secretary’s office create such a blunder?”

    The allegations related to Austin’s absence have been denied by both the Ukrainian embassy in Egypt and Orascom Development, the owner of the El Gouna resort. However, the controversy has led to speculations of a potential Congressional hearing, exposing the Biden administration to further embarrassment in the lead-up to the November election.

    Despite the growing criticism, President Biden has expressed “complete confidence” in his appointed civilian head of the Department of Defense and is reportedly not considering firing Austin, according to White House officials. Nonetheless, there are indications that lower-level staffers involved in the decision not to disclose Austin’s health condition may face consequences.

    A former senior DOD official told Politico, “Not telling the [White House], Congress or the media he is sick, and then telling Pentagon staff he is working from home is next level. This is a problem. Someone made the decision not to disclose. That person will likely be gone shortly.”

    The situation may escalate into a bruising Congressional hearing, with Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi, the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, deeming Austin’s silence “unacceptable” and demanding a briefing. Former Defense Secretary Mark Esper criticized the Pentagon’s lack of transparency, stating, “Somebody dropped the ball for Secretary Austin on that one.”

    GOP Congressional leaders may seize on it to further question the Biden administration’s ability to lead the nation’s armed forces effectively. While Biden and Austin hope the issue fades away quietly, lingering questions persist about who was truly in charge of the nation’s defenses during Austin’s undisclosed hospitalization. The details of the medical event remain tightly guarded, adding another layer of mystery to this unfolding controversy.  America deserves better than this, in our leadership.
