At least he agrees the NY Case against Trump is BS. Other than that, he is still what we in MAGA call a RINO In my opinion.
What kind of country would we be if presidents who tried to steal an election couldn’t enjoy their golden years? – so says Jonah Goldberg. A man I once had tremendous respect for, and now, he is becoming a total anti-Trump operative, so easily exposed. Here he is actually taking Trump’s side on a topic. Which is surprising by itself. Political commentator Jonah Goldberg, known for his contributions to CNN, expressed his strong opinion on Thursday, asserting that the case initiated by New York Attorney General Letitia James against former President Donald Trump was entirely driven by political motivations and should never have been pursued. Other than this, I think the following quote from his recent article in The Richmond, is all telling.
‘Republican firebrands have always loved to denounce the perfidy of “RINOs” — Republicans in Name Only — who don’t vote for hard-line conservative policies. RINO is an even dumber epithet today, because it now means a Republican insufficiently loyal to Trump. Either way, if the GOP wants to achieve a fraction of the things it claims to want, it’ll need a lot more RINOs to win elections. And that will require that Republicans end their childishness.’ Jonah in The Richmond Times Dispatch
This is important to note. The ONLY victim in this NY “civil fraud” witchhunt case is President @realDonaldTrump. He is a victim of political persecution ordered by corrupt Far Left Democrats to prop up Joe Biden- Elise Stefanik
The civil trial, which concluded with Trump delivering a closing statement, was initiated by James in September 2022. The allegations centered around Trump purportedly inflating the value of his properties to secure more favorable loan terms. Seeking a penalty of $370 million, James also aimed to permanently ban Trump from engaging in real estate business within the state.
During a conversation with host Dana Bash, Goldberg delved into the psychological aspects of the case. When asked about the significance of the $370 million and the potential business bans for Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., Goldberg responded humorously, referencing the gates of hell in Dante’s “Divine Comedy” and expressing reluctance to explore such a dark place.
Even CNN's legal analyst says: “It is a fact that Letitia James campaigned for attorney general in 2018 specifically on a promise of ‘vote for me and I’ll get Donald Trump.’
…When you make statements like that, how can you say there’s no political angle to this?” pic.twitter.com/WeM90yVaDX

Despite acknowledging Trump’s less-than-impeccable business practices and labeling him a “sleazy businessman,” Goldberg firmly stood by his assertion that the entire trial was a political maneuver. He emphasized the mistake of bringing forth such a prosecution, attributing it to a campaign promise and an elected judge embedded within the party machinery.
sometimes I look at the their liked tweets to get an idea of who they’re supporting. For instance, Megyn Kelly’s liked tweets are from people like Karol Markowitz, Red Steeze, marc thiessen, jonah goldberg. what do they all have in common? They all hate Trump – Rugerman 45
Goldberg painted a complex picture of Trump’s psychology amid the trial, acknowledging that while the businessman takes immense pride in his business empire, being on trial carries its own set of political advantages. He argued that Trump strategically embraced the situation, using it as an excuse to avoid the campaign trail, debates, and other potentially challenging political engagements. According to Goldberg, this tactical maneuver has been effective for Trump.

The legal backdrop of the case includes Judge Arthur Engoron’s ruling in September, which accused Trump and his business of exaggerating his net worth, deceiving financial institutions, and overvaluing assets. These findings laid the foundation for the case brought by Attorney General James. Continued below this clip

Adding a historical context to the situation, Goldberg pointed out that James had explicitly campaigned on targeting the former president during her bid for attorney general in 2018. This, in his view, further fueled the perception that the case was politically motivated from the outset.

To Sum It All Up: Jonah Goldberg, a prominent political commentator, expressed strong skepticism regarding the legitimacy of the case brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James against Donald Trump. Goldberg argued that the trial was inherently political, stemming from campaign promises and party dynamics, and criticized the prosecution as a mistake. Despite acknowledging Trump’s questionable business practices, Goldberg emphasized the strategic advantage Trump gained from being on trial, enabling him to avoid certain political engagements. The commentary provided a nuanced perspective on the intersection of politics and legal proceedings surrounding the former president.
Mr. Goldberg has been anti-Trump for years, so taking his side in anything becomes suspect, making us all wonder what the true motivations are. Like many who are jumping on the Trump bandwagon as of late, always look to what they do, not what they say in any one particular moment in time. Mr. Goldberg once has the respect of all Conservatives, and over the years has lost most on the right side of the aisle. All except Deep State types who still back anything and anyone who is against Trump. This includes Jonah Goldberg who as of yet has not shown a shred of objectivity when it comes to any actions of President Trump.

Judge says Trump can’t speak at trial. AG L. James seeking $370M in damages & preventing him from doing bus in NY. This case against Trump is totally unjust & outrageous. Real estate goes u&d banks were ok & did their own appraisal case should b dismissed. – Jean Poulin

Bill: It’s too long of an explanation, but the J6 case will be thrown out. The GA case is unravelling because of Willis corruption. The NY fraud case will be overturned because the Judge displayed so much bias against Trump, plus there was no victim. In the Mar-A-Lago case, yes, he will lose with a conviction of “Obstruction of Justice,” that is, if the jury is 12-0. If not, it will be a mistrial. – Ken Crow
