    Border Crisis: Examining Leadership Failures and Calls for Impeachment in Homeland Security Hearings

    The U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security is gearing up for its second hearing next week, intensifying its pursuit of impeachment proceedings against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. This hearing aims to delve into the human toll of the ongoing border crisis, featuring witnesses who will share their firsthand experiences of its impact. Mayorkas has lied to the camera and to the American people, claiming 16 times that ‘the border is secure’. He thinks we are morons.

    Committee chairman Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., expressed strong concerns about Secretary Mayorkas’ leadership, asserting that the consequences are immeasurable. He accused Mayorkas of neglecting his duty, attributing the loss of countless lives to the smuggling of fentanyl across the open Southwest border. Green highlighted the overwhelming strain on law enforcement at borders and nationwide, emphasizing the devastating effects on both American citizens and migrants at the hands of cartels and gang members.

    During the first hearing this week, the committee heard testimonies from attorneys general representing Montana, Oklahoma, and Missouri. These legal authorities detailed the adverse effects of the border crisis on their respective states, advocating for Mayorkas’ impeachment as a constitutional duty.  Meanwhile the Democrats play blind, deaf and dumb on the topic.     Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen criticized Mayorkas for turning the border into a meaningless 2,000-mile line, ceding control to ruthless Mexican drug cartels. Knudsen pointed out the cartels’ exploitation of Mayorkas’ perceived weakness, contributing to addiction, death, human trafficking, and smuggling on both sides of the border.

    Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey drew attention to Mayorkas’ failure to secure the U.S. border, drawing a stark contrast with the military’s success in securing Iraq’s border. He emphasized the need to close the border to safeguard national sovereignty and security.

    ‘HR2 is the only solution to stop the border crisis, stop amnesty for millions of illegals, and stopping the Democrat’s plan to turn millions of illegals into the next wave of voters! Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond highlighted the daily encounters of law enforcement with foreign nationals entering or residing in the country illegally. He identified China and Mexico as primary sources of illegal activities, with individuals from various other countries, including Cuba, Bulgaria, and Russia, being involved in such enterprises.

    The committee’s hearings are a culmination of a year-long investigation into the causes, costs, and consequences of the unprecedented crisis at America’s borders. Mayorkas, however, contends that he inherited a broken system from the Trump administration. He has called for increased funding, dismissing the impeachment articles as baseless and asserting his commitment to remain in office.

    Despite multiple invitations, Mayorkas has declined to appear before the committee, citing scheduling conflicts. Committee chairman Rep. Mark Green expressed frustration, accusing Mayorkas of prioritizing Mexican interests over American concerns. The committee’s attempts to engage with Mayorkas have been met with rejection, prompting them to move forward with hearing testimonies from victims of the border crisis.

    Mayorkas’ absence at the upcoming hearing is attributed to his hosting a delegation of Mexican officials. This decision has further fueled criticism from the committee, with Green emphasizing that Congress, not Mexico, holds oversight over the Department of Homeland Security.

    The committee initiated contact with Mayorkas in August 2023, inviting him to testify about the border crisis. Despite subsequent follow-up letters, Mayorkas rejected the invitations, citing limited capacity to respond to hearing requests.

    Three articles of impeachment have been filed against Mayorkas, accusing him of dereliction of duty, violation of congressionally established laws, and posing a national security threat. These measures come in the wake of reports that over 10 million illegal border crossers entered the U.S. since January 2021 during Mayorkas’ tenure.

    The scheduled hearing, set for 9:30 am ET on Thursday, is expected to shed further light on the contentious issues surrounding Secretary Mayorkas and the ongoing border crisis.
