    Texas Takes Control: State Authorities Act to Secure Border Park Amidst Soaring Illegal Crossings

    TX National Guard has deployed armed soldiers and vehicles to block Federal Government from accessing the river in Eagle Pass. TX informed them that Border Patrol agents won’t be allowed to enter Shelby Park in any operational capacity. The state of Texas has seized control of a nearly 50-acre park on the banks of the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass to prevent migrants from illegally crossing into Texas from Mexico.     In response to a surge in illegal border crossings, Texas state authorities have taken control of a public park along the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass. Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas expressed that the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) informed him of this development, emphasizing that it was not a decision initiated by the city.

    In a video live-streamed from Shelby Park on Facebook, Mayor Salinas stated, “This is not something that we wanted. This is not something that we asked for as a city. I want to make that clear.” Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, asserted that the measure aims to strengthen deterrents for migrants heading to the U.S.-Mexico border. He underlined Texas’s commitment to being a challenging place for unauthorized crossings.

    Two military vehicles were observed in a video, positioned behind a newly installed gate restricting public access to the park. Governor Abbott had previously signed a disaster declaration in 2021, launching Operation Lone Star in response to concerns about the Biden administration’s perceived leniency regarding border policies.

    Mayor Salinas explained that the state’s full control of Shelby Park stemmed from the disaster declaration, highlighting the thousands of migrants who illegally crossed into the United States at Eagle Pass the previous month. The influx prompted the Biden administration to take action, temporarily suspending operations at international railway crossing bridges in two Texas cities.

    Social media footage revealed long lines of immigrants at the Eagle Pass crossing, prompting the U.S. Border Patrol to address the situation on December 15. They reported encountering “continuous groups of migrants led by misinformation making illegal entry into the United States.”

    On December 18, the bridges in Eagle Pass and El Paso were closed, with CBP redirecting personnel to assist in apprehending illegal immigrants. CBP attributed these measures to a resurgence of smuggling organizations transporting migrants through Mexico via freight trains. Collaboration with Mexican authorities aimed to curb illegal border crossings.

    Representative Tony Gonzales, a Republican representing Eagle Pass, estimated that around 12,000 illegal immigrants arrived in December. Although the number of illegal crossings has since decreased, state officials informed Mayor Salinas that the operation at Shelby Park is a preventive measure against future surges, leading to the indefinite state control of the park.

    Temporary barriers have been in place at Shelby Park since 2021, according to the Texas DPS. The agency stated, “The current posture is to prepare for future illegal immigrant surges and to restrict access to organizations that perpetuate illegal immigrant crossings in the park and greater Eagle Pass area.”

    A spokesperson for Governor Abbott, Renae Eze, clarified that the move is authorized under the 2021 disaster declaration. Eze emphasized Texas’s commitment to addressing the border crisis through the deployment of Texas National Guard soldiers, DPS troopers, and additional barriers to deter and repel illegal immigration.

    Last summer, Eagle Pass allowed state authorities to deploy razor wire and stacked shipping containers to create a barrier at the park. However, this initiative was canceled due to resident complaints. Mayor Salinas noted that, unlike the previous arrangement, residents will now be denied access to parts of the park under the state’s emergency declaration.

    Knowing all of this, expect the Biden Administration to do all it can to overcome any actions to secure the border. Biden and the Democrat Party want millions upon millions more illegals in this nation, all being paid by the Admin $2200 per month in welfare, plus many other benefits. Article 4, Section 4 puts responsibility on the federal government to protect the states from an invasion.
