    Battling the Freeze: Trump’s Dominance, Candidate Confidence, and the Chilling Iowa Caucus Showdown

    As the Iowa Caucus approached on a bitterly cold Monday, former President Donald Trump rallied his supporters in Indianola, urging them to defy the freezing temperatures and participate in the crucial event where he held a commanding lead over other GOP candidates.

    During a Sunday rally, President Trump emphasized the importance of voter turnout, jesting, “You can’t sit home. If you’re sick as a dog, you say, ‘Darling, I gotta make it,’” and even humorously adding, “even if you vote and then pass away, it’s worth it.” The National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines forecasted “dangerously cold temperatures with wind chills” ranging from -40 to -45 degrees Fahrenheit through Tuesday. This extreme weather forced the former president to cancel three out of four in-person events in Iowa on Sunday.

    In a bid to energize their supporters despite the inclement weather, other GOP candidates, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, called on voters to brave the cold for the sake of the caucus. DeSantis asserted, “If you’re willing to brave the cold for a few hours tomorrow for the Iowa caucus, I’ll be spending the next eight years fighting for you and fighting for this country.”  Meanwhile, DeSantis had a wheelchair bound man thrown out of his rally.     Vivek Ramaswamy, another GOP candidate, saw an opportunity in the adverse weather, stating during a campaign event in Sioux City that the cold could “work to our advantage” due to the passion of his supporters. The final NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll reinforced Trump’s lead, with 48 percent of likely Republican caucus-goers choosing him as their “first choice.”

    Despite the challenging weather conditions, Trump supporters emphasized the significance of the Iowa Caucus for the nation. U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake from Arizona urged, “Iowa in January isn’t for the faint of heart. But snow and cold weather won’t stop Iowans from caucusing for President Trump. On Monday, Iowa is going to help get our country back on track.” Investigative journalist Laura Loomer echoed this sentiment, urging Trump supporters not to let the weather deter them from participating in the caucus.

    Iowa Republican Party chair Jeff Kaufmann dismissed concerns about cold weather affecting caucus turnout, stating that it would take a “major, major ice storm” to disrupt the voting process. Kaufmann drew a parallel between the caucuses and football games, asserting that they would proceed regardless of the weather and that the GOP had no contingency plans in place. Trump has said ‘our voters will walk on glass to vote’ as they know the consequences of this election.

    Despite trailing behind Trump in the polls, DeSantis, Nikki Haley, and Ramaswamy expressed confidence ahead of the caucus. Haley, in an interview with Fox News, acknowledged the target on their back but emphasized the importance of performing well on caucus day and beyond. DeSantis, too, echoed optimism, citing a “great path going forward” and a robust organization in Iowa. Ramaswamy predicted a surprising victory, claiming that the polls did not accurately reflect his support among first-time caucus-goers.

    David Kochel, an Iowa-based Republican strategist, noted the extreme weather as a “wild card” in the caucus, making predictions challenging. With temperatures plunging to -35 degrees, Kochel suggested that the impact on voter turnout and its effect on candidates remained uncertain.

    As the Iowa Caucus unfolded amidst freezing conditions, the enthusiasm of supporters emerged as a crucial factor. The NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll revealed that 49 percent of Trump supporters were “extremely enthusiastic” about their candidate, while DeSantis and Haley supporters lagged behind at 23 percent and 9 percent, respectively.  It should be noted that the De Moines Register has never been friendly to Trump. The outcome of this high-stakes caucus would not only shape the trajectory of the GOP race but also underscore the resilience of voters facing adverse weather conditions to exercise their democratic right.  We all know Trump has the win, so it is generally accepted that this is really a battle for second place. Will one of the Deep State candidates of Haley or DeSantis beat out the upstart Vivek Ramaswamy? We will find out in just hours.

    What the Deep State and Democrats did not count on was an informed voter base that has witnessed the near destruction of our freedom at the hands of this administration, using FBI, the DOJ and all facets of government to suppress the people.
