    Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, a Democrat, recently unveiled the initial round of budget cuts aimed at addressing a $180 million shortfall resulting from challenges posed by the influx of illegal immigrants. The city faces the daunting task of slashing approximately $18 million per month from public services throughout 2024 to cover the expenses associated with providing services to undocumented individuals who have arrived in the city. The budget gap was brought to light in early January, prompting the need for swift and substantial adjustments. Democrats always put illegals before citizens.

    The first casualties of these budget cuts are the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and Parks and Recreation. Mayor Johnston, emphasizing the gravity of the situation, hinted at the inevitability of additional austerity measures in the near future. The DMV will no longer process vehicle registrations in person, transitioning these services to an online format through mail, accompanied by rotating weekly closures starting March 4. Furthermore, DMV kiosks will be strategically placed in grocery stores, enabling immediate printing of registration stickers and accommodating drivers in need of emissions tests.

    Commencing on February 20, Denver Recreation Centers will witness a reduction in operating hours due to the budget cuts. Regional Centers, operating seven days a week, will now be open for six days a week, while those operating for six days will experience reduced hours. Additionally, there will be a 25 percent reduction in summer programming at parks.
