Netflix and Mojang Studios have announced the creation of a new CG-animated Minecraft series. Set to explore an original story and introduce fresh characters, the series aims to illuminate the Minecraft universe in a novel way. This announcement was timed to coincide with the 15th anniversary of Minecraft, emphasizing the synergy between the top-selling video game and the leading streaming service. Minecraft, having sold over 300 million copies and inspired a range of spinoff games since its 2011 debut, continues to expand its influence. Netflix, with nearly 270 million subscribers globally, remains a powerhouse in streaming entertainment.

The series is being developed by WildBrain, a seasoned animation studio known for producing popular series such as Sonic Prime, Ninjago: Dragons Rising, and Carmen Sandiego for Netflix. Details about the new series are still under wraps, as Netflix and Mojang have kept specifics to a minimum.
This isn’t the first time Minecraft has ventured onto Netflix. Previously, Minecraft: Story Mode, a narrative game developed by the original Telltale Games, was adapted for the streaming service in 2018. Initially released in 2015, the interactive title was later removed from Netflix’s catalog in late 2022.
