She is not a fan of the man who pulled the trigger. But as a Hollywood Leftist darling, Baldwin has at least up until this point, avoided prison.
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who served as armorer on the ill-fated set of the film Rust and was recently found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for her part in Alec Baldwin’s accidental shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, reportedly harbors a desire to see the actor imprisoned.

Court documents filed by special prosecutors in Baldwin’s upcoming involuntary manslaughter trial reveal Gutierrez-Reed’s profound disdain for the 30 Rock star. She believes it unjust that the blame for Hutchins’ death has been placed solely on her. At one point, Gutierrez-Reed admitted in a phone call that she wanted Baldwin “in jail.”

These documents, which detailed the prosecutors’ opposition to Gutierrez-Reed’s request for conditional discharge (probation instead of a prison sentence), did not include transcripts of the phone calls with her family and others. Instead, they provided summaries of the conversations.

Prosecutors emphasized Gutierrez-Reed’s “total failure to accept responsibility” by citing these prison calls. She had mistakenly placed live ammunition in the prop gun Baldwin was handling on set in 2021, leading to the fatal discharge that killed Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.
In various conversations, Gutierrez-Reed allegedly called prosecutor Morrissey a “bitch,” referred to members of the jury as “assholes,” and expressed her anger that the incident’s entire blame was pinned on her. One call summary noted that Hannah hopes the prosecutors “put Alec Baldwin in jail also.” Another summary indicated that “Hannah says that if she is subpoenaed to Baldwin’s trial, she will not show up.”
Jason Bowles, Gutierrez-Reed’s attorney, argued that her comments were taken out of context during a time of significant distress. He remarked, “It’s quite unjust to describe or cherry-pick things someone may or may not have uttered while agitated and recently detained. However, many facets of this case have demonstrated a disregard for fairness in favor of a win-at-all-costs mentality.
Gutierrez-Reed’s case has brought to light the complexities of accountability and responsibility in tragic accidents within the film industry. The incident on the Rust set has sparked intense debate over safety protocols and the roles of those responsible for handling firearms on movie sets. Her conviction and the impending trial of Alec Baldwin underscore the broader implications of such incidents and the legal ramifications that follow.
As the legal proceedings continue, the court’s decision on whether Baldwin will face similar consequences remains uncertain. Gutierrez-Reed’s insistence on Baldwin’s culpability reflects a deeper issue of perceived injustice and the emotional turmoil experienced by those involved in the tragedy.
The discourse surrounding the Rust shooting incident has also highlighted the critical need for stringent safety measures in film production. The film industry, known for its high-stakes environments and intricate coordination, must balance creative endeavors with rigorous safety protocols to prevent future tragedies.
As Gutierrez-Reed navigates the legal consequences of her actions, the broader industry must also grapple with implementing reforms to ensure such an incident does not recur. Her case serves as a somber reminder of the vital importance of safety and accountability in all facets of film production.
