If it weren’t for Pixar, Disney would be having a disaster of a time at the box office. Will it be only a matter of time before the woke mindset that destroyed other Disney assets, makes its way into Pixar even more than it already has?
Disney/Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” is swiftly becoming a box office juggernaut, poised to be the first film of 2024 to surpass the $1 billion mark. On its second Friday alone, the film raked in an impressive $31 million, setting it on track for a monumental $96 million second weekend. This figure not only shatters the previous $92 million record held by “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” but also catapults the sequel to a cumulative domestic gross of $351 million in just two weekends. This rapid accumulation matches the pace set by last year’s hit “Barbie,” forecasting a potential surpass of $600 million in North American revenues.

Currently, “Inside Out 2” has outperformed “Dune: Part Two,” becoming the highest-grossing film domestically of the year in a mere eight days. It’s expected to claim the global top spot shortly, having already crossed the $500 million mark worldwide.
The sequel’s performance is particularly notable as it demonstrates significant staying power in the box office, akin to major post-COVID hits like “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Barbie.” A second-weekend drop of just 38% from its $155 million debut illustrates the film’s strong appeal and endurance, marking the best hold for a movie that opened above $150 million.

Even if “Inside Out 2” is the big attraction, Sony’s “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” is still doing well, earning a healthy $19.5 million in the third weekend. This brings the film’s domestic total to an impressive $146 million, closely trailing behind its predecessor, “Bad Boys For Life.”
The weekend box office also saw a new entrant in the top five with Focus Features/New Regency’s “The Bikeriders,” which opened to a respectable $9.5 million across 2,642 theaters. Directed by Jeff Nichols and premiering at Telluride last year, this crime drama was picked up by Focus after Disney dropped it amid the SAG-AFTRA strike. Featuring a stellar cast including Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy, and Austin Butler, “The Bikeriders” has garnered positive reviews, reflected in its scores on Rotten Tomatoes and a B grade on CinemaScore.
