Another banana republic coup that failed. Rumor is that the CIA was behind it, but that remains to be proven.
In a significant escalation in Bolivia, a high-ranking general was detained following an incident where armored vehicles breached the doors of the presidential palace in La Paz. This event, described by President Luis Arce as an attempted coup, unfolded on a recent Wednesday. The operation was orchestrated by General Juan Jose Zuniga, the army chief, who declared his intention to “restore democracy,” challenging President Arce’s authority. In response, President Arce quickly appointed a new military commander who ordered the insubordinate troops to withdraw.

The turmoil, which lasted around three hours, saw the withdrawal of the military forces and their vehicles. Concurrently, hundreds of supporters of President Arce gathered in the square outside the palace. They displayed Bolivian flags, sang the national anthem, and expressed their support enthusiastically.
Additionally, government minister Eduardo del Castillo reported the arrest of former Vice Admiral Juan Arnez Salvador. Del Castillo emphasized that the objective of this group was to overthrow the government, which was elected through democratic means.
