The never-ending war with the leader whose term in office is now long passed. Yet like most tyrants, he stopped elections to stay in power. This is Ukraine today.
In a recent statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated his urgent call for additional long-range weapons and advanced air defense systems following a deadly missile attack. The Russian strike on the town of Vilniansk, close to Zaporizhzhia in southeastern Ukraine, resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including two children, and injured 31 others. On the same day, missile attacks across Ukraine claimed 11 civilian lives and wounded 37 more.

President Zelensky expressed the relentless hardship faced by Ukrainian cities and communities due to ongoing Russian bombardments. He emphasized that the key to countering these attacks lies in “destroying Russian missile launchers” and bolstering Ukraine’s defensive and offensive capabilities with modern, long-range weapons and air defense systems.

Further aggravating the situation, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin reported that two missiles struck Vilniansk, causing significant damage to local infrastructure, including shops and residential buildings. In addition to these assaults, four individuals were killed and seven were wounded in artillery strikes on three villages in the Donetsk region, near the frontline.

While Western allies, including France, the United Kingdom, and the United States, have supplied various long-range weapons and air defense systems to Ukraine, there have been obstacles. Notably, the delivery of further military aid from the US faced delays in Congress earlier in the year, though it was eventually passed in April. Zelensky criticized these delays, linking them to losses of life and territorial gains by Russian forces. He stressed that timely decisions on weapon shipments are crucial, as delays translate directly into human casualties.
