We have quite a team going into the Olympics. This young man is ready to shock the world.
Quincy Wilson has made history by becoming the youngest male American track athlete to qualify for the Olympics. The 16-year-old prodigy was recently selected to join the U.S. 4×400 meter relay team for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. Wilson shared his excitement on social media, celebrating his achievement with friends, family, and fans.

Wilson’s journey to the Olympics began with an exceptional performance at the trials, where he not only broke but twice improved the under-18 world record for the 400-meter dash. His coach, Joe Lee, confirmed that the selection news was received this past Sunday, noting that the official announcement from the team is expected later in the month.
At the trials, Wilson first shattered the previous under-18 record held by Justin Robinson since 2019, clocking in at 44.66 seconds. He then bested his own record two days later with a time of 44.59 seconds during the semifinals. Despite these incredible feats, Wilson narrowly missed qualifying as an individual runner, finishing sixth in the 400-meter final.

Nonetheless, his groundbreaking performances at the trials secured his spot on the relay team, marking a significant milestone in his young career. Wilson’s rapid ascent in track and field has not only earned him a place in Olympic history but also the admiration of his peers and predecessors in the sport.
The previous youngest male American track Olympians were Jim Ryun and Erriyon Knighton, who were both 17 when they competed. Ryun made his Olympic debut in 1964, and Knighton followed in 2021. Knighton, who recently qualified for the 200-meter event in Paris, represents another bright future for American track and field.
