Authorities reported that the driver, a man in his late 60s, claimed the car experienced sudden and unintended acceleration. Following the incident, he was taken into custody, though police have yet to confirm the specifics of these reports publicly.

Kim Chun-su, an emergency officer, provided details in a briefing where he highlighted the critical condition of one of the injured individuals. The severity of this situation prompted President Yoon Suk Yeol to take immediate action. He instructed his safety minister and the head of the emergency management agency to deploy all necessary resources to assist the victims and investigate the circumstances surrounding this dreadful accident.
