The festival, known for its glamorous red carpet events, aims to return to its usual star-studded atmosphere after last year’s event was less prominent due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. “Beetlejuice 2” will begin its international release on September 4, with a domestic release following on September 6.
Venice Film Festival chief Alberto Barbera expressed his excitement, stating, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice marks the long-awaited return of one of the most iconic characters of Tim Burton’s cinema. The Venice Biennale is honored and proud to host the world premiere of a work that features a surprising swing of creative imagination and driving hallucinatory rhythm.” Barbera, who served on the Tim Burton-led Cannes Film Festival jury in 2010, highlighted Burton’s extraordinary visionary talent and the film’s masterful realization.

Tim Burton shared his enthusiasm for the premiere, saying, “I’m very excited by this. It means a lot to me to have the world premiere of this film at the Venice Film Festival.” Burton is no stranger to Venice, having previously received a Career Achievement Golden Lion in 2007 and presenting films such as “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Corpse Bride” at the festival. Michael Keaton, who stars as Beetlejuice, has also had recent success at Venice with films like “Spotlight” and “Birdman.”
In “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” a sequel to the classic 1988 supernatural comedy, the Deetz family returns to Winter River after a sudden tragedy. Lydia (Winona Ryder) and her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega), discover a mysterious model of the town in the attic, accidentally opening a portal to the Afterlife. The mischievous demon Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) is summoned back, ready to wreak havoc once more.
