Is peace on the table or not? It seems that no matter what world leaders try, peace efforts keep getting rebuffed from our own Washington DC. Am I missing something or is Tucker, Kennedy, and many in conservative media right when they say that war is the only answer for the Deep State and Biden? What this means is there will be no peace until Trump gets into office.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban recently visited Moscow, emphasizing efforts to restore dialogue between Russia and Europe amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. During his visit, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude towards Orban for attempting to revive discussions, although he noted that Kyiv remains resistant to ending the hostilities.

This is the first visit by a European leader to Russia in over two years. Orbán’s visit comes just days after he made an unannounced trip to Kyiv for a meeting with Ukrainian President… pic.twitter.com/zAHZuzcCaQ

Orban, who had previously met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, shared on the social media platform X that his travels to both capitals were steps towards peace. He mentioned that significant differences still exist between the positions of Kyiv and Moscow.
This month, Hungary assumed the rotating presidency of the European Union, and Orban has declared his intention to leverage this role to push for an end to the conflict that erupted after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. However, his visit to Moscow has not been without controversy. Josep Borrell, the EU’s foreign affairs chief, stated that Orban did not have a mandate for his Moscow visit and was not representing the EU. This visit is seen purely within the context of bilateral relations between Hungary and Russia.

Orban, often regarded as Putin’s closest ally within the EU, has historically obstructed the EU’s efforts to provide financial and military aid to Ukraine and to implement sanctions against Russia. His stance has caused tensions within the EU, especially after he criticized the decision to start formal membership talks with Ukraine, though he ultimately abstained from vetoing the decision.
During his meetings, Putin acknowledged Orban’s role as the current president of the EU Council but expected him to convey the stance of European partners on the Ukrainian issue. European leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel, have reiterated that any discussions about Ukraine must involve Ukrainian participation and that appeasement will not deter Putin’s actions.
Orban has advocated for a “time-limited” ceasefire to expedite peace talks, a proposal he discussed with Zelenskyy in Kyiv. However, Zelenskyy has urged Orban to support Ukraine’s efforts for peace in collaboration with international partners. Despite holding the EU presidency, Orban was reminded by Michel that Hungary does not have the mandate to engage with Russia on behalf of the EU.

The EU remains staunchly opposed to Russia’s actions, imposing multiple rounds of sanctions against Russia. While at the same time, as of Maym Russia became the leading supplier of natural gas, energy, to the EU. Amazing how much hypocrisy there is in politics. Orban’s visit marks the first by an EU leader to Moscow since Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer’s visit in April 2022. Orban and Putin last met in Beijing in October 2023, where they discussed energy cooperation. In his statement on Hungarian state radio, Orban emphasized the necessity of action beyond Brussels to achieve peace, marking a significant moment in EU-Russian relations amidst the ongoing conflict. But he well knows that without President Trump back in office, there will be no peace and thousands more Ukrainians and perhaps Russians face death for nothing. Elon Musk said over a year ago now, that he fears the war will go on and there will be almost no territorial changes, but hundreds of thousands more will die. He was 100% right.
