I don’t think anyone looks at Kamala Harris as Presidential material.
Kamala Harris is stepping up her campaign efforts this week amid rising speculation about her potential to replace Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee for the 2024 presidential election. As Biden, at 81, faces increased scrutiny over his performance and age, the spotlight has shifted to the 59-year-old vice president.
Several Democratic lawmakers, worried about their own election prospects following a chaotic debate, are calling for Biden to step aside and for Harris to take the lead. This week, Biden faces a significant test of his leadership as he hosts world leaders for a NATO summit in Washington, D.C.

“He is doing what a ‘good Democrat’ is supposed to do…which is standing by the President.”

Rep. Adam Smith from Washington stated that Harris would be a stronger candidate than Biden, urging the current president to bow out of the race. Despite Harris’s own struggles with low approval ratings since taking office, a recent poll surprisingly shows her with a slight edge over Donald Trump in a potential November matchup. Interestingly, even Hillary Clinton, who isn’t running, would reportedly beat Trump by a small margin.
Harris is making a notable three-state campaign tour, with stops in Las Vegas, Dallas, and North Carolina, crucial battleground states for the upcoming election. Her campaign insists she remains committed to Biden’s reelection, but the increased activity suggests she’s also positioning herself as a viable alternative.
Before becoming vice president, Harris served briefly as a U.S. senator and was California’s Attorney General. Her tenure in the White House has been marked by significant challenges, including high staff turnover and controversial policy assignments. Notably, her efforts to address the southern border crisis have been criticized as ineffective, with immigration remaining a top concern for voters, second only to economic issues.

Critics often describe Harris as awkward and uncharismatic, with her speeches and public appearances frequently targeted for ridicule. Her tendency to use confusing phrases has not helped her public image. For example, she often speaks about the “promise of America” in a manner that many find perplexing.
The debate performance by Biden two weeks ago has only intensified doubts about his candidacy. Described as incoherent and weak, Biden’s performance has led to calls for new leadership. His subsequent attempts at damage control, including campaign stops and media appearances, have done little to restore confidence in his ability to serve another term.
Despite the mounting pressure, Harris and the campaign team continue to publicly support Biden’s reelection bid. However, the possibility of her stepping in as the nominee remains a topic of discussion among Democrats. Some suggest that other figures, like California Governor Gavin Newsom or Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, could also be contenders if Biden steps down before the convention.

Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, once a mentor to Harris, previously advised her against accepting the vice presidency, fearing it would hinder her future ambitions. Despite his warning, the current political climate may prove him wrong as Harris emerges as a key figure for the Democrats in 2024.
