Important Details of the July 6 Florence, Ky. Shooting
Chief Jeff Mallery of the Florence Police Department gave specifics of the event, which happened around 11 miles south of Cincinnati and almost 90 miles northeast of Louisville.
Responding to a complaint of gunshots fired at around 2:50 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, at a Florence, Ky., house hosting a 21st birthday celebration, officers Among the departed was the party host, Melissa Parrett.
Chase Garvey, 21-year-old alleged shooter who left the scene, came under identification by witnesses. One Boone County Sheriff’s office officer among others found Garvey’s car and tried to stop him. Garvey left once again, though, finally shooting himself and wrecking the car. At a hospital close by, he passed away from his wounds.
Police said Garvey acted alone and have not found a motivation. Police first found no links between Garvey and the partygoers, but Paris Miller, the sister of victim Shane Miller, came forward to say another victim, Delaney Eary, was Garvey’s ex-girlfriend.
“This is the first mass shooting in Florence, and it is very emotional for the victims, their families, and the officers who responded,” Chief Mallery said, reflecting the emotional toll the incident took.

Garvey entered a guilty plea to an illegal transaction with a juvenile in the second degree, so in April 2023 he was sentenced to five years of probation.
