Now in its sixth year, the Galaxy Z Flip has embraced its role as a compact, creativity-inspiring device. The clamshell design pays homage to the classic flip phones, while packing in modern technical advancements. When folded, it measures roughly three inches corner to corner, showcasing Samsung’s engineering prowess.

The Z Flip 6, priced at $1,099, is more affordable than its $1,899 foldable sibling, the Z Fold 6, but it’s still a significant investment. Notably, it’s $100 more than last year’s model, so what makes it worth the extra cost? Let’s break it down.
This year’s Galaxy Z Flip 6 is thinner and lighter, with flattened edges for an industrial feel. It comes in a variety of pastel colors: Blue, Mint, Yellow, Silver Shadow, White, Peach, and Crafted Black. For added flair, the camera rings are accented in the color of your choice.
Design aside, the Z Flip 6 offers a notable battery upgrade from last year’s 3,700mAh to 4,000mAh. It features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and the first vapor cooling chamber on a Z Flip device, which together improve efficiency and reduce battery drain.

The camera system has also received a significant boost. The main sensor is now 50MP, and there’s a 12MP ultra-wide sensor. Samsung opted for an ultra-wide camera instead of a telephoto lens, aiming to improve group photos and shots of wider landscapes. This choice seems wise, as the ultra-wide sensor is likely to be more versatile for most users.
The standout camera feature is the new AI-powered Auto Zoom. This feature detects how many people are in a frame and identifies important background objects (like landmarks) to adjust the framing automatically. I tested this feature in a lounge setting and found the concept of my smartphone handling the framing to be quite impressive.
The outer display, or Flex Window, remains a 3.4-inch screen like last year’s model, but now includes whimsical elements: Interactive Wallpapers, which feature animations that you can tap, drag, and shake the phone to interact with; Photo Ambient, which applies weather or color temperature filters based on your time and location; Generative Wallpaper, which lets you create new wallpapers by selecting key theme words; Suggested Replies, which quickly respond to texts with AI-generated replies based on your texting style; Dual-screen Interpreter Mode, which offers live translations between two languages; and new widgets, including Samsung Health, SmartThings, Reminder, and News.
