“I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form,” Black posted on Instagram, expressing his dismay over the incident. A supporter of President Biden’s reelection bid, Black emphasized that after much reflection, he no longer feels it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour. He also stated that all future creative plans are on hold, thanking fans for their support and understanding.
The controversy arose after Black presented Gass with a birthday cake onstage and told him to “make a wish.” Gass responded with the remark, “Don’t miss Trump next time,” referencing the assassination attempt that occurred the previous day at a campaign event in Pennsylvania. Trump was wounded, his ear bloodied, and he was rushed off stage by Secret Service agents. The incident resulted in the death of one attendee and injuries to two others.

The backlash was swift, with both Republicans and Democrats condemning political violence and calling for a reduction in incendiary rhetoric. Black’s decision to cancel the tour and put future plans on hold underscores the seriousness with which he views the incident.
Jack Black had recently appeared at a high-profile campaign event to fundraise for Biden, adding another layer of complexity to the situation. The incident has cast a shadow over the band’s activities and brought significant public attention to the remarks made by Gass.
