More lies coming from the Left on Climate. According to the so-called scientists once again running their fake computer models that have been 100% wrong for decades, they are trying to claim that ice caps are melting and this can make our days longer. So, let’s dive in…
New ‘research’ published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences has unveiled that Earth’s days are getting slightly longer due to the melting of polar ice caps. This effect arises as melted ice from Greenland and Antarctica shifts towards the equator, altering Earth’s rotational dynamics similar to a figure skater extending arms to slow down a spin.
The study’s co-author, Surendra Adhikari from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, explained that this redistribution of mass increases Earth’s physical inertia, slowing its rotation. The complexities of Earth’s shape, primarily an oblate spheroid rather than a perfect sphere, along with influences from tectonic shifts, tides, and even seismic activity, contribute to these changes.

To measure these subtle variations, scientists employed sophisticated observational methods. Very Long Baseline Interferometry helped determine how long it takes for radio signals from space to reach different points on Earth, providing clues about the planet’s rotation and tilt. GPS measurements also offered ultra-precise rotational data, crucial for this research.
While the Moon’s tidal forces have long been recognized as influencing Earth’s rotation, causing it to slow by approximately 2.40 milliseconds per century, the new study projects that the accelerating impacts of climate change could surpass lunar effects by the century’s end. If greenhouse gas emissions remain high, Earth’s days could lengthen by an additional 2.2 milliseconds by 2100.
🌍CLIMATE CAUSED TIME CHANGE?🌍
Scientists say melting polar ice caps are causing the Earth to rotate **very slightly** faster every day. https://t.co/JSpwa0L8ai— ABC12WJRT (@ABC12WJRT) July 16, 2024
This incremental change, although seemingly negligible, has profound implications for space travel and navigational systems. Precise orientation of the Earth is vital for accurate communication with spacecraft, such as the Voyager probes, where slight miscalculations can lead to errors over vast interstellar distances.
Key Points:
i. A recent study indicates that the melting of polar ice caps is causing Earth to rotate more slowly, resulting in longer days. This change is primarily due to the redistribution of ice mass from the poles to the equator.
ii. Researchers used advanced measurement techniques such as Very Long Baseline Interferometry and GPS to observe changes in Earth’s rotation.
iii. Historically, the Moon’s gravitational pull has been the main cause of Earth’s rotational slowdown. However, the study suggests that by the end of the 21st century, the effects of climate change could exceed those of the Moon’s influence.
iv. Since 1900, climate-induced changes have lengthened days by about 0.8 milliseconds, with a potential increase to 2.2 milliseconds by 2100 under high emission scenarios.
v. The implications of these findings are significant for space travel and Earth navigation, as precise knowledge of Earth’s orientation is critical for communication with spacecraft in distant orbits.
