Update: Jack Black’s agent dumped him as a result of this drama.
John Rich has doubled down on his comments regarding Jack Black, following the cancellation of Tenacious D’s tour after Black’s bandmate, Kyle Gass, made a controversial joke about Donald Trump. The comedy rock duo, co-founded by Black and Gass in 1994, was scheduled to tour the U.S., Europe, and Australia as part of The Spicy Meatball Tour. However, concert promoter Frontier Touring announced the cancellation on Tuesday, just six stops into the tour, due to Gass’s remark about the assassination attempt on Trump.
The former president was speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a gunman opened fire on the crowd with an AR15-style rifle. Trump was struck in his right ear and quickly escorted off stage by Secret Service agents. One rally attendee was killed, and two others were injured. A representative later confirmed that Trump was “fine” after being treated at a local hospital.

A viral video from Tenacious D’s show in Sydney, Australia, showed Gass being surprised with a birthday cake. When asked to “make a wish,” Gass quipped, “Don’t miss Trump next time.” Rich, believing Black made the remark, tweeted: “@jackblack had to cancel his entire tour after wishing death on DJT ‘next time.'”
Rich previously criticized Black for endorsing Biden in the November general election. On July 4, Rich mocked Black on social media for his appearance at a Biden fundraiser, where Black wore American flag overalls.
In an Instagram post, Gass apologized for his remark, calling it “highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake.” He expressed regret and apologized for any pain caused.
The conversations taking place these days is incredible. God is on the move. He does win & what a day of rejoicing that will be.

Following reflection, Black decided to cancel the remainder of the Tenacious D tour and put all future creative plans on hold, expressing gratitude to fans for their support and understanding.
