Recently, Kim shared how the two-week filming stint offered her a much-needed escape from her troubled reality. Her and Kroy’s public disputes have often escalated to police interventions. Financially, the couple is deeply indebted, facing the imminent foreclosure of their home, which has failed to sell despite multiple price cuts. Even their dogs seem eager to flee the tumultuous environment.
However, during an interview with PEOPLE, Kim reflected positively on her experience filming “Surreal Life.” She revealed that her time in Medellín allowed her to take a breath and regain some clarity.
“The Surreal Life was one of the most incredible experiences in my life,” Kim remarked. Despite never having watched an episode of the show, she entered with the intention of finding some distance from her divorce chaos and refocusing on herself. “I needed some time away from the actual house to gain some clarity going through this divorce and focus more back on Kim.”

Kim spoke about the therapeutic benefits she and her seven fellow celebrity castmates experienced while filming. “It definitely was therapeutic. A lot of the experiences, including the breath work, were significant for me. I’m always on and I mask some of the pain with humor, so that was a really big moment for me. That release was life-changing.”
The bonds formed during the show have endured, with Kim and her castmates remaining in contact since filming ended last fall. “Surreal Life was like a breath of fresh air for me. I actually had tears in my eyes when I left everybody. It was pretty unbelievable the family we became in just those two weeks and the connections that we made.”
Kim also mentioned keeping in frequent contact with her rumored show hook-up, Chet Hanks, adding a layer of intrigue to the upcoming series.
