A nation ravaged by Marxism and the weather
North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un oversaw rescue operations in flood-affected regions along the border with China, where approximately 5,000 people were rescued over the weekend. The flooding, which followed heavy rains, had left these individuals isolated and at risk. The North Korean army initiated emergency measures in North Pyongan province, with Kim himself inspecting and directing the response. State media KCNA reported that water levels in the Amnok River, also known as the Yalu River in Chinese, had dangerously exceeded safety limits, particularly affecting Sinuiju City opposite China’s Dandong.

Kim criticized local authorities for inadequate preparation and response to the severe weather event, highlighting the floods’ gravity and his role in leading the relief efforts. His presence at the disaster site underscores the event’s significance and his intent to project leadership during the crisis. The flooding in North Korea is part of a broader pattern of extreme weather across Asia, exacerbated by human-driven climate change.

The storm system’s aftermath brought heavy rains and flooding to various regions in China, including Liaoning province, near North Korea’s border. In Liaoning, over 45,000 residents were evacuated due to the flooding, with hundreds of chemical and mining operations halted to mitigate risks. The region remains on high alert for continued heavy rainfall.
