Chamberlain, however, argued that Mohn’s writings, which mentioned “Satanic” cults seeing him as the messiah, were more rhetorical than delusional. She suggested that Mohn felt marginalized and that his writings were expressions of this sentiment.

Corrections officer Ralph Taylor testified that Mohn was “extremely polite” and respectful in jail. Judge Corr questioned Mohn about his understanding of the charges, to which Mohn accurately recounted that he faced several charges, the most serious being first-degree murder.

According to prosecutors, Mohn fatally shot his father, Michael Mohn, with a pistol before decapitating him with a kitchen knife and machete at their Levittown home. Justin Mohn then recorded a video holding his father’s severed head, identifying him as a federal employee, and calling for violence against the government. Blood stains were found on the desk in the room where the video was recorded, along with a computer with several open tabs, including one for YouTube.
