The two actors, who first teamed up 35 years ago in the 1989 sci-fi comedy Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, are both excited about this new collaboration. “We’re incredibly excited to be on stage together and work with the great Jamie Lloyd in one of our favorite plays,” said Reeves and Winter in a joint statement. Reeves, 59, will take on the role of Estragon, while Winter, 59, will play Vladimir.
Waiting for Godot originally premiered in Paris in 1953, following its French writing in 1948-1949. The English-language version debuted in London in 1955 and toured the United States the same year. The play’s first Broadway run was at the John Golden Theatre in 1956, featuring Bert Lahr and E.G. Marshall. It was later revived at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in 1957, with Earle Hyman and Mantan Moreland. Notable revivals include the 2009 production starring Bill Irwin and Nathan Lane, and the 2013 version with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.
