“The actions of Hamas are a clear demonstration of their commitment to violence and terror, at the expense of the Palestinian people and regional stability.” – Benjamin Netanyahu
Negotiating with terrorists will always get you nowhere. It is only a question of how many more Jews they can kill, and when. They understand this, but the West does not.
Hamas has expressed a willingness to relinquish control over governing the Gaza Strip after the war, but it remains firm in its refusal to disarm in its ongoing conflict with Israel. In a recent interview with NPR in Qatar, Basem Naim, a prominent figure in Hamas’ politburo, discussed the group’s stance on the war with Israel, the prospects of a ceasefire, and reflections on the attack carried out on October 7.

On that day, Palestinian militants used parachutes, speedboats, and explosives to infiltrate Israel, an operation that reportedly caught Hamas off guard with how quickly Israel’s defenses crumbled. The attack resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people, with an additional 250, including soldiers, taken hostage. Naim acknowledged that the breach led to significant chaos, with ordinary Gazans rushing across the border, which may have contributed to unintended actions during the operation.
Israel later released body cam footage from the operation, showing scenes of mass casualties, including at a music festival and in residential homes, as well as Israelis being taken captive. This footage has fueled further outrage and a severe military response from Israel.
Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that Israel’s military retaliation, now in its 11th month, has claimed over 40,000 Palestinian lives, including nearly 11,000 children, with thousands more missing. The ministry’s figures, which do not differentiate between militants and civilians, largely consist of women and children. Israel maintains that its military operations are targeted specifically at Hamas and blames the group for operating within civilian areas.
Naim argues that the ongoing conflict is creating insurmountable barriers between generations, predicting that future Palestinian generations will be unwilling to compromise unless their genuine rights are recognized. He emphasized that Palestinians have tried every means, both peaceful and armed, to achieve statehood, but with little success. The current situation, he suggests, is the culmination of years of Israeli expansion in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, compounded by the rise of a far-right government in Israel.
A GAME OF CHESS.

Hamas has endured a series of high-profile assassinations over the years, most recently the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, a top leader based in Qatar, during a visit to Iran. Naim, who himself could be targeted, insists that such assassinations only strengthen support for Hamas, portraying figures like Haniyeh as martyrs.
Despite heavy losses from Israel’s military campaign, Hamas remains defiant, refusing to disarm. Naim questions why Israel is not subjected to the same demands, arguing that disarmament would only be acceptable if there were guarantees against future attacks. He also indicates that Hamas recognizes the need for concessions to secure a ceasefire and the eventual reconstruction of Gaza, signaling a willingness to step back from governing in favor of a Palestinian unity government. However, the future of such a government, which would include Hamas’ rival Fatah, remains uncertain.
Reflecting on the October 7 operation, which Hamas named Al-Aqsa Flood, Naim claimed that while the group achieved several objectives, including the capture of Israeli soldiers, the cost has been extraordinarily high. He noted that the war has severely damaged Israel’s international image, though he acknowledged the deep sacrifices made, including the loss of his own family members in Gaza.

Naim concludes by defending Hamas’ actions, arguing that the group’s operation forced the world to refocus on the Palestinian plight, which had been increasingly marginalized by the international community.
