Escalating Military Operations: Israeli Security Forces (ISF) have been conducting large-scale military operations in the West Bank, involving raids and airstrikes. The United Nations has reported that these operations have resulted in significant casualties, with airstrikes in areas like Tulkarm and Tubas causing civilian deaths and damage to public infrastructure UN News
In the West Bank, a grim toll has mounted as the Palestinian health ministry reports that 22 individuals have lost their lives in Israel’s ongoing military operation in Jenin. This operation, launched by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on Wednesday, comes amid rising concerns over potential terrorist threats in the region.
The IDF states that 14 militants have been killed so far, and dozens of explosive devices have been neutralized in the cities of Jenin and Tulkarm, as well as in the Nur al-Shams refugee camp. On Saturday, the Israeli army announced the death of Staff Sgt. Elkana Navon, a 20-year-old soldier from Petah Tikva, who was killed during a firefight in the Jenin refugee camp. According to military sources, two Hamas operatives were hiding in a building the IDF stormed, leading to a brief but fatal exchange of gunfire that resulted in the operatives’ deaths.

Navon, who was deeply involved in his community and studied at the Hesder Yeshiva in Kiryat Shmona, was remembered fondly by Rabbi Ariel Barkai, who praised his vitality and compassion. Navon’s death underscores the personal cost of the ongoing conflict, even as the broader operation continues with a focus on counterterrorism and weapons confiscation.
- Rising Death Toll: Since October 7, more than 500 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank due to the ongoing conflict. The violence has escalated significantly following Hamas-led attacks in southern Israel, which also sparked the war in Gaza. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, described the situation as “unprecedented bloodshed,” urging for immediate cessation of hostilities and compliance with international humanitarian lawUN News
- Impact on Civilians: The violence has not only affected combatants but also civilians, including children. Recent UN reports highlighted that among the casualties were teenagers killed near military posts after reportedly throwing stones or Molotov cocktails. The UN has criticized the use of excessive force and the lack of medical assistance provided to the wounded UN News
The IDF’s presence in Jenin and other areas of the northern West Bank is described as a targeted operation, intended to confiscate at least 2,000 weapons from Palestinian locales by the end of the year. In leaflets distributed around Jenin, the IDF urged residents to resist criminal influence, promising a safer environment once the operation concludes.
Israeli forces have also extended their activities to the Nur al-Shams refugee camp near Tulkarm and the Al Farah refugee camp north of Nablus. In Nur al-Shams, the mission concluded after the deaths of two senior West Bank militant figures, including Ninad Jaber, a commander who had evaded multiple assassination attempts.

The IDF has reported observing efforts by Iran and its affiliates to incite further unrest in the West Bank, reflecting a broader geopolitical dimension to the ongoing violence. Since the conflict’s escalation last October, Israeli forces have arrested around 5,000 individuals in the West Bank, with nearly 2,000 of these detainees linked to Hamas. Additionally, the IDF claims to have eliminated over 600 militants, approximately 100 of whom were killed in airstrikes. The army has also demolished 29 homes associated with these militants since the start of hostilities.
