In a fierce rivalry with Takeru Kobayashi, Chestnut emerged victorious, further cementing his reputation as the world’s top competitive eater.

The competition, which followed the rules of the famous Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, took place at the Hyper X Arena in Las Vegas and was streamed live on Netflix. Both Chestnut and Kobayashi were given 10 minutes to consume as many hot dogs as possible, with strict regulations prohibiting dunking or soaking the hot dogs in water and penalties for excess crumbs or regurgitation. Despite these restrictions, Chestnut surpassed his previous record of 76 hot dogs, set in 2021, by eating 83, while Kobayashi managed to eat 67.
“I’ve been trying to hit 80 hot dogs for years. Without Kobayashi, I was never able to do it. He drives me,” Chestnut stated on stage after his win. “We weren’t always nice to each other, but I love what he can do. We push each other to be our best.”
Kobayashi, who has a storied past in competitive eating, including holding the Nathan’s title from 2001 to 2006, expressed contentment with his performance despite not winning. “I feel like I did everything I could,” he said through an interpreter. The Japanese eater had earlier announced his retirement from competitive eating, citing his inability to feel hunger, as revealed in a recent Netflix documentary.

Despite not competing in Nathan’s contest this year due to a sponsorship deal with Impossible Foods, Chestnut’s latest achievement only adds to his long list of accolades, where he has dominated the competitive eating scene with 16 wins in 17 years. As for Netflix, their next live spectacle will feature a boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium in Texas.
