In a significant show of support for Taiwan and to bolster U.S.-Taiwan relations, members of the House Select Committee on the China Communist Party (CCP) led by Chairman Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.) arrived in Taipei on Feb. 22. The bipartisan delegation’s visit, part of their trip to the Indo-Pacific region, aims to engage with senior Taiwanese officials on critical issues such as U.S.-Taiwan relations, trade, and regional security.
The battlefield between U.S. and the CCP is right in the United States of America. Saying no to the Chinese Communist Party is the way to keep people safe!- Jacky
Rep. Gallagher emphasized Taiwan’s resilience against CCP bullying upon arrival, stating, “Time and again, Taiwan has shown the world how to stand up to the CCP’s bullying and not only survive but thrive.” He expressed enthusiasm for showcasing U.S. support for Taiwan, its President-elect Lai, and the newly elected Legislative Yuan, underscoring the United States’ commitment to standing with Taiwan.
The visit comes shortly after the election of Lai Ching-te as the Taiwanese president, marking a third consecutive four-year term for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). This victory, perceived as a threat by China to its goal of taking over Taiwan, solidifies the DPP’s continued influence.
Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen welcomed the delegation, highlighting the visit as a demonstration of “staunch U.S. support for Taiwan’s democracy through concrete action.” She emphasized the close partnership between Taiwan and the United States in safeguarding freedom, democracy, and regional peace. She wants to keep her nation free from Chinese domination, as Taiwan has never been under the CCP’s control. The island nation has been independent and free since Mao took over the mainland.

The House Select Committee on the China Communist Party, established in January, has consistently advocated for Taiwan. Its robust position against the Chinese regime has garnered bipartisan support on Capitol Hill, following a high-profile visit by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in 2022.
Commenting on the visit, Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) stressed the importance of standing by Taiwan, asserting that failure to do so could be perceived as weakness by the Chinese communist government. Bacon advocated for the United States to provide weapons to Taiwan to counter growing military threats from Beijing, emphasizing the need for high-quality defense capabilities.
Despite the absence of formal diplomatic ties since 1979, the United States and Taiwan maintain a strong relationship based on the Taiwan Relations Act. This legislation authorizes the U.S. to provide military equipment to Taiwan for self-defense. We actually stabbed Taiwan on the back, and had the UN do the same, all to appease Red China.
Public support for Taiwan in the United States has been growing, with 46 percent in favor of sending U.S. forces to defend the island if invaded, according to the Reagan National Defense Survey in November. Additionally, 60 percent supported increasing the presence of U.S. troops near Taiwan to deter potential Chinese invasion.
In response to the escalating pressure from the Chinese regime, the U.S. has increased its support for Taiwan. The Biden administration, in August, allocated $80 million of military equipment through the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program. Furthermore, a $500 million sale of military equipment to Taiwan, including infrared search and track systems for F-16 fighter jets, was approved.
In December 2022, President Joe Biden signed the Taiwan Enhanced Resilience Act (TERA), authorizing $10 billion in grants and loans for military equipment to Taiwan over the next five years. This legislative move underscores the U.S. commitment to deterring CCP aggression against Taiwan.
As tensions persist, Taiwan’s defense ministry announced a substantial arms deal in 2022, including the purchase of 100 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles and 60 Harpoon anti-ship missiles from the United States. This comes in response to the consistent deployment of Chinese military aircraft and vessels near Taiwan, signaling the CCP’s intentions to erode Taipei’s defenses. President Biden, after receiving tens of millions of bribes from Communist China, has done all he can to not send arms to Taiwan, even long paid for weapons. Bribery money goes far.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping has openly declared his ambition to achieve the “reunification” of Taiwan, even expressing a willingness to use force to accomplish this goal. In this context, the U.S. congressional delegation’s visit serves as a strategic move to reinforce Taiwan’s position and counteract the growing threats posed by the CCP. Since the Island nation has never been part of China, Xi obviously believes that anyone Chinese must be part of the Greater China’. This includes Chinese in the U.S. as China has established actual police stations in the U.S. and has gone after former and current Chinese citizens.
No matter what happens, we need President Trump in the White House. Taiwan must be defended as they have always been free and wish to remain so. Throw in their dominance in computers and semi-conductors, and they are a target that China is salivating over. It’s about to get very scary out there. Biden has made every move incorrectly, and we are now looking at a possible Mutual Defense pact shortly between China and Russia. This is not a good situation for America to be in.
