Here’s the ruling…
GRAND RAPIDS — Kristina Karamo was properly removed as chair of the Michigan Republican Party last month, a Kent County judge ruled Tuesday, issuing a preliminary injunction requiring her to relinquish control of GOP assets. The decision marks a stinging legal defeat for Karamo, who has continued to oversee bank accounts and official party communications amid a leadership fight with former Ambassador Pete Hoekstra, whom critics chose to replace her. In a recent development, a Michigan judge issued a preliminary injunction, determining that Kristina Karamo was rightfully removed as the chair of the state Republican Party. The dispute arose when Karamo refused to acknowledge former ambassador and congressman Pete Hoekstra as her replacement.

Kent County 17th Circuit Court Judge J. Joseph Rossi ruled that Karamo was officially ousted on January 6, and Malinda Pego took on the role of acting chair. The judge stated, “Any actions of Ms. Kamaro since January 6, 2024, purporting to be taken on behalf of the Michigan Republican State Committee are void and have no effect.”
The removal took place during a meeting where members of the Michigan Republican State Committee voted to oust Karamo. Investigative journalist Lara Loomer revealed this decision, sharing a statement with the Michigan GOP letterhead on social media.
However, the Michigan GOP swiftly denied the legitimacy of the move, branding it as “patently false.” They argued that Karamo had “easily defeated” challenger Matthew DePerno, the former state attorney general.

Congratulations to @petehoekstra, and big thanks to @LauraLoomer for shedding light on this snake in our states' GOP. America First has no room for Democrat Operatives.

Present in the courtroom for the ruling, Karamo called it “egregious” but committed to complying with the decision, as reported by USA Today. On her personal account, she stated that the case was “not complex,” emphasizing that either she was appropriately removed or not.
The court order explicitly prohibits Karamo or any representative acting on her behalf from engaging in various activities related to her former position. These restrictions include falsely presenting herself as the chair of the Michigan Republican State Committee in person, to the media, or on social media platforms. Karamo is also barred from calling meetings, conducting business, accessing certain accounts, and making communications on behalf of the committee or the party.
Despite endorsements from the Republican National Committee and former President Donald Trump for Hoekstra, Karamo has refused to step down and relinquish control of the Michigan GOP’s assets, hindering Hoekstra’s takeover.
The court order, retroactive to January 6, is not the final decision, as a trial for the case is scheduled for June 10, as mentioned by Judge Rossi.

Following the recent ruling, Hoekstra released a statement, saying, “The MIGOP State Committee, the RNC, President Trump, and now a court of law have all reviewed the January 6th meeting, and there is unanimous agreement that the former Chair was properly removed, and I was elected as the new Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party.”
Discontent over the state party’s finances had surfaced during Karamo’s tenure, with concerns about a focus on grassroots fundraising rather than seeking larger donations. Complicating matters, Karamo and Hoekstra had announced conflicting Republican conventions for March 2, where the allocation of the state’s presidential delegates would take place.

The judge’s order is expected to bring clarity to this situation. Its issuance coincides with Michigan’s presidential primary, highlighting the state’s importance as a potential swing state in determining the results of the national race.
In a separate development, the Michigan Supreme Court thwarted activists’ attempts to remove President Trump from the ballot, paving the way for his decisive victory in the primary. The Associated Press called the race for President Trump shortly after polls closed at 9 p.m. ET, marking his sixth consecutive primary victory.

Bob, About half of committee wanted new leadership due to her decisions. The actual # is more like 49-57. There is a reason that many people, some who actually really love Kristina, believed she needed to be removed. How many have you spoken with? – lovedbyGod
- I just want to thank everybody. This was a great day and Pete [Hoekstra], congratulations. You’ll be a fantastic chairman, one of the best ever. I don’t know if you know he was a fantastic— just couldn’t be better as an ambassador— but before that he was a really successful and respected, highly respected congressman. And now he’s with us, and we have a very simple task: we have to win on November 5, and we’re going to win big, and it’s going to be like nothing that anybody has ever seen. It’s going to be fantastic. We win Michigan; we win the whole thing. The auto workers are with us. We have so many people with us. They’ve destroyed the auto working business—the auto workers— with this new deal, and with the all-electric mandate, all those cars are going to be made in China. And we’re going to bring it all back into Michigan and other places in our country. But I just want to thank everybody, you’ve been so incredible. The numbers are far greater than we even anticipated. Thank you very much, and we’ll be doing a lot of campaigning over the next couple of months and few months. I can tell you this November 5th cannot come fast enough because our country is in serious trouble. We have the worst president in the history of our country, the most incompetent and the most corrupt president, and we can’t let this continue. So the date November 5, January 20, when we take over, could not come fast enough because we’re going to Make America Great Again, greater than ever before. And I just want to thank everybody, you’ve been incredible. And I’m so proud of the results because they’re far greater than anticipated. So thank you all very much, and I’ll be seeing you over the next period of nine months and long beyond that. Thank you very much, and Pete, congratulations. – Hollywood Resistance
- The OFFICIAL CHAIRMAN of MIGOP Pete Hoekstra held a fundraiser Sunday night. I was blessed to be able to attend. Vivek was there. Obviously a great speaker. But the highlight of the evening came from Hoekstra himself when he said, “Isn’t it great to be having fun as a party again? We have 8 months to do 24 months worth of work but we’re going to win and we’re going to have FUN doing it!” A true leader can motivate people to do good work and have fun doing it. Pete knows how to raise money and win elections and have fun doing it. Plus he’s not a communist. Good things ahead for Michigan. – Scott McMahan
