A new installment is on the horizon for fans of Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games series. Titled “Sunrise on the Reaping,” this fifth book is slated for release by Scholastic on March 18, 2025, according to a press release obtained by PEOPLE.

Set twenty-four years before the events of the original Hunger Games, the story kicks off on the morning of the reaping for the Fiftieth Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, as outlined in the release’s synopsis.
This upcoming novel represents the first addition to the Hunger Games universe since the publication of “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” in 2020, which became a global bestseller.
Scholastic’s President of Trade, Ellie Berger, expressed excitement about the forthcoming release, emphasizing its capacity to delve into new dimensions of the Hunger Games saga and provoke critical reflections on real-world issues.
Collins herself, at 61, shared insights into her inspiration for “Sunrise on the Reaping,” citing influences from David Hume’s notions of implicit submission and the manipulation of narratives through propaganda. She underscored the relevance of the question “Real or not real?” in today’s context.
