Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has launched its artificial intelligence chatbot, Meta AI, for users in India. This release follows months of testing with a select group of users in the country, which is Meta’s largest market with over a billion subscribers across all its platforms. The launch of Meta AI in India coincides with Google’s recent introduction of its AI chatbot, Gemini, in the region, supporting nine Indian languages.

Ryan Cairns, who heads the engineering team for Meta’s Generative AI (GenAI) division, emphasized the extensive testing that Meta AI underwent before its launch. He explained that the process involved fine-tuning the AI to ensure its effectiveness across various domains, identifying areas where it performed well and those needing improvement. This iterative process was crucial in training the model to meet user expectations.
Meta AI is now accessible in English on multiple Meta platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. Users can also interact with the chatbot via the Meta.ai website. Twelve other nations, including the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, have also adopted Meta AI in addition to India.
