Anticipating a significant increase in travel, the TSA expects to screen over 32 million individuals from Thursday, June 27, to Monday, July 8. This figure represents a 5.4 percent increase compared to the same period last year. TSA Administrator David Pekoske highlighted the agency’s preparations for the surge in travelers, attributing the improved readiness to reduced attrition rates and enhanced recruitment efforts enabled by the TSA Compensation Plan. This plan, funded by a budget passed by Congress and signed into law by President Biden, has bolstered the agency’s staffing levels and efficiency.

Pekoske expressed confidence in the TSA’s ability to manage the increased passenger volumes, citing collaboration with airline and airport partners. He noted that the rise in travel indicates a robust economy and emphasized the agency’s preparedness to ensure smooth operations during the peak travel season.
The busiest travel day is expected to be Friday, June 28, when the TSA anticipates screening more than 3 million passengers. This surge aligns with predictions from the American Automobile Association (AAA), which forecasted a record number of Americans traveling during the Fourth of July week. According to AAA, approximately 70.9 million people are expected to travel 50 miles or more during this period.
