The Coffee sector has been getting hit with setbacks as of late.
Nearly 300 varieties of canned coffee products distributed nationwide by various coffee roasters and retailers are being recalled due to potential health risks. Snapchill LLC, a Wisconsin-based company, is voluntarily recalling all its canned coffee products that are within their expiration dates after discovering that their manufacturing process could result in a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall is due to concerns that the manufacturing process could allow the growth and production of botulinum toxin in low-acid canned foods. Botulism, a rare but serious illness caused by this toxin, can lead to severe symptoms including difficulty breathing, muscle paralysis, and even death. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that symptoms can appear anywhere from six hours to two weeks after consuming contaminated food.

The recalled coffee products were sold under various brand names and came in metal cans ranging from 7 oz to 12 oz. Consumers can identify these products by looking for the text “Produced and distributed by Snapchill LLC” beneath the nutrition facts panel. Some cans may also display the label “Snapchill Coffee.”
The FDA advises consumers to either destroy the affected products or return them to Snapchill or the place of purchase for a refund. Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products, and Snapchill has stated that they are not aware of any of their products containing the toxin.
