The confrontation occurred after Kang allegedly arrived at Jacksonville International Airport from Newark Liberty International Airport. He checked into the Ocean Coast Hotel in Fernandina Beach on Friday. Over the weekend, he acquired a hammer and flashlight from a local hardware store, tools he later used in the attack, as indicated by receipts found in his hotel accommodation.
The assault took place at the victim’s residence, which Kang accessed through an unlocked front door. Dressed in all black and masked, Kang attacked the resident, leading to a physical struggle on the floor. The altercation was intense enough to prompt the victim’s stepfather to call for law enforcement assistance after he was awakened by cries for help. He discovered the scene of the struggle upon arriving.

The crime scene was described as having a “significant amount of blood,” particularly in the entryway and the victim’s bedroom. Both individuals were hospitalized following the incident. The victim, who suffered serious but non-life-threatening head injuries, has since been discharged. Meanwhile, Kang was taken into custody by local authorities.
During his arrest, Kang purportedly expressed to a deputy that the victim was “a bad person online” and inquired about the potential length of his prison sentence for his actions. This query was met with a stern response from law enforcement, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes and the likelihood of a significant time away from any video games.
Kang, now detained at Nassau County Jail, faces additional charges of armed burglary. He is reportedly not cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
