Now that’s a team being put together. Texas’ commitment to revitalizing its baseball program is in full force.
New Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle is bringing his coaching staff from Texas A&M to Austin. Announced late Tuesday night, Schlossnagle’s team at Texas A&M will join him at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Nolan Cain will take on the roles of associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. Assistant coaches Max Weiner and Michael Earley will be responsible for pitching and hitting, respectively.
Cain and Earley have been with Schlossnagle throughout his three-year tenure at Texas A&M, contributing to the program’s success. Weiner, who joined the Aggies this past season, previously worked as the Seattle Mariners’ pitching coordinator from 2019 to 2023.
Jim Schlossnagle ripped a reporter for asking him about interest in the Texas job just 24 hrs before he bailed for Austin.
The new Longhorns head baseball coach publicly apologized for that response on Wednesday.

Under Schlossnagle’s leadership during the 2024 baseball season, Texas A&M achieved a remarkable 53-15 record and reached the championship series of the College World Series. The team’s pitching staff posted a 3.86 ERA, ranking fourth nationally, and led the country with 12 shutouts. Offensively, the Aggies averaged 8.5 runs per game, making them one of the top-scoring teams in the nation.
In contrast, Texas struggled with a 4.91 ERA, ranking 47th nationally and marking its worst performance since 1999. While the Longhorns hit the 18th-most home runs in college baseball, their average of 7.1 runs per game ranked 111th among the 295 Division I teams.
