The man has talent. I just rewatched Dune 2 and wanted more.
Warner Bros. has announced exciting additions to its upcoming movie release calendar, including a new, yet-to-be-titled film from acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve and another installment in the popular MonsterVerse series. Denis Villeneuve, renowned for his directorial work on “Dune,” is slated to release his next major film on December 18, 2026. While specifics about the project remain under wraps, industry insiders speculate that this date will likely see the release of “Dune 3,” as Villeneuve is currently in the process of writing the script and casting. This follows his recent success with “Dune: Part Two,” which was released in March of this year. The sequel was praised for its visual spectacle and compelling storytelling, earning an 8/10 in reviews and grossing over $711 million worldwide. Villeneuve has hinted that his next project might be an adaptation of “Dune Messiah,” expected to conclude his ventures in the Dune universe.

Following Villeneuve’s film, the next MonsterVerse project is set to premiere on March 26, 2027. This new date was originally reserved for an untitled animated film, which has since been removed from the schedule. The future of the MonsterVerse is currently shrouded in some uncertainty regarding its direction and leadership. The last film in the series, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” released in March of this year, performed well at the box office, generating over $567 million globally. Despite its commercial success, reviews were mixed, with the film receiving a moderate score of 6/10.
The upcoming MonsterVerse movie is undergoing a change in its creative team. Adam Wingard, who directed the 2024 and 2021 MonsterVerse films, will not be returning for the next installment. Instead, the screenplay for this new project will be penned by the writer known for “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” This shift indicates a potential new direction for the franchise as it continues to evolve and expand.
Denis Villeneuve’s next film is from Warner Bros. and is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.
There’s only one other movie currently scheduled for that month and it’s on the same date.
It’s an untitled Star Wars movie.
Presumably, the Rey movie.

I for one would like to see Dune wrapped up far sooner, but it looks like we will now have to wait a bit. Since as stated he is writing the script as I write this. I wish him the best and can’t wait…
