Kaye faced charges of third-degree assault, third-degree menacing, and second-degree harassment as filed by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office. According to the victim, the assault resulted in her nose being broken in four places. She recounted her initial perception of Kaye as appearing drunk or unstable and advised her companions to avoid interaction with him.
The conflict escalated when Kaye reportedly insulted the group by calling them “useful idiots.” Micah P responded by asking Kaye to clarify his remarks, which led him to approach her aggressively. In response, she splashed water on h and Kaye retaliated physically. The incident shocked onlookers, prompting immediate reactions.
Further complicating the narrative, a source indicated that the altercation began when a group of demonstrators, identified as either “Queers for Palestine” or “Trans for Palestine,” confronted Kaye after he criticized their stance on an anti-Israel protest. The demonstrators allegedly surrounded him and threw a red liquid at him, which led to Kaye trying to distance himself from the situation. Evidence provided later showed Kaye with stains on his clothing and a bloody leg from the skirmish.

In his defense, Kaye’s attorney argued that his client was acting in self-defense after being provoked and assaulted by the group, which included being shoved to the ground and subjected to antisemitic slurs. This defensive stance was intended to highlight the complexity of the situation, suggesting that Kaye was more a victim of the circumstances than an aggressor.
At the time of the incident, Kaye was a managing director at Moelis & Co., a Manhattan investment bank. Following the event and ensuing publicity, he resigned from his position at the firm.
