As American big tech races to compete in AI, China has all of their tech and more, as they continue to rob American companies of technology yearly. The estimate as of 2024 is that this is valued at well over 600 billion per year that China has. This puts them miles ahead in the race for all tech, and we have the Democrats and RINOS to thank for this atrocity.
China has taken a commanding lead in the global race for generative artificial intelligence (AI) patents, filing over 38,000 patents between 2014 and 2023, according to a recent United Nations report. This number is six times greater than the patents filed by U.S.-based inventors, highlighting China’s aggressive push in the AI sector. The UN World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) detailed these findings, noting that generative AI patents now constitute 6% of all AI patents globally.
China leads the global race in generative AI patents, with over 38,000 patents filed from 2014 to 2023, significantly outpacing the U.S. with 6,276 patents.

Generative AI encompasses technologies that enable the creation of content such as text, images, music, audio, and video. Geographically, China is at the forefront with 38,210 inventions, far outpacing the U.S. (6,276), the Republic of Korea (4,155), Japan (3,409), and India (1,350). This surge in patent filings underscores the significant technological advancements and potential within the field of generative AI.
China’s rapid progress comes as it strives to catch up with leading U.S. tech firms like OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon in developing large language models (LLMs). The breakthrough success of ChatGPT in November 2022, known for generating human-like responses to prompts, spurred Chinese tech giants like Alibaba and Baidu to launch their own LLMs to compete with their American counterparts.

In an effort to solidify its position in the global tech landscape, China initiated a three-year “action plan” in May. This initiative aims to enhance standards in AI chips, generative AI, and to bolster national computing power, thereby driving technological and economic growth. Wei Sun, a senior consultant at Counterpoint Research, emphasized that China’s vast untapped market for both consumers and businesses offers substantial opportunities to innovate and apply generative AI technologies across various industries using specialized data sets.
The UN report also highlighted that image and video data dominate generative AI patents, with 17,996 inventions, followed closely by text (13,494) and speech or music (13,480). By examining patent trends and data, WIPO aims to assist policymakers in shaping the development of generative AI for the collective benefit.
