The stroke, which resulted in a nine-day brain bleed, forced Stone to step away from her Hollywood career. During this time, she became vulnerable to exploitation. “I had $18 million saved from my successful career, but when I got back to my bank account, it was all gone. My refrigerator, my phone — everything was in other people’s names,” she said. “I had zero money.”
Now 66, Stone talked about how the trauma of her stroke changed the way her brain works and how she thinks. She recalled an encounter with a Buddhist monk who told her she had been reincarnated into her own body. “I had a near-death experience and was brought back. I bled into my brain for nine days, pushing my brain to the front of my face. It wasn’t in its original position,” she said.
Stone’s recovery involved significant changes in her senses. “My sense of smell, my sight, my touch — everything changed,” she shared. “I couldn’t read for a couple of years. My vision was distorted, and I saw color patterns. Many people thought I wouldn’t survive.”

The physical and sensory challenges required Stone to relearn how to process sensory information and manage everyday tasks. Her recovery journey was long and challenging, but she gradually regained her abilities and sense of self.
Despite losing her savings and facing substantial physical hurdles, Stone managed to move forward by choosing to let go of bitterness and anger. She focused on staying present and maintaining a positive outlook. “I decided not to hang onto being sick or to any bitterness or anger. If you bite into the seed of bitterness, it never leaves you. But if you hold faith, even if that faith is the size of a mustard seed, you will survive,” she said. This mindset helped her through the darkest periods of her recovery.
Today, Stone lives with a renewed sense of joy and purpose. She highlights the importance of faith and positivity in overcoming adversity. “So now, I live for joy and purpose,” she stated. Her story is one of resilience and strength, providing inspiration to many facing similar challenges.
