You can’t have incredible games all the time.
In an unforgettable turn of events, Washington Wizards rookie Alex Sarr endured a nightmarish game during Tuesday night’s Summer League showdown against the Portland Trail Blazers. Sarr’s performance was nothing short of historic, but for all the wrong reasons—he finished with 0 points, missing all 15 of his field goal attempts. This marked the highest number of field goal attempts without a make in a Summer League game since at least 2017, according to ESPN Stats & Information. If this had been a regular-season game, Sarr’s 0-for-15 would tie for the second most in NBA history.

Despite the shooting calamity, Sarr managed to contribute in other ways. In nearly 30 minutes on the court, he pulled down 9 rebounds, handed out 3 assists, and swatted away 3 shots. Yet, his shooting struggles were comprehensive, missing all seven of his 3-point attempts and both of his free throws.
Drafted as the No. 2 pick just last month, expectations were high for the 19-year-old from France. However, in his three Las Vegas Summer League games, Sarr has found it tough to find his rhythm offensively. He is averaging 6.7 points and 6.7 rebounds, showing flashes of defensive prowess with 3 blocks per game. Still, his offensive efficiency has been abysmal, shooting below 35% in all three games and a dismal 19.5% overall from the field.

Sarr’s journey to the NBA has been anything but ordinary. Last season, he played in Australia with Perth as part of the NBL Next Stars program, a path chosen to better prepare him for the rigors of the NBA. Yet, his Summer League struggles underscore the steep learning curve that many international players face when transitioning to the NBA’s faster pace and heightened physicality.
His rough night in Las Vegas serves as a stark reminder of the adjustments rookies must make. Despite his scoring woes, Sarr’s ability to impact the game in other facets shows promise. Wizards fans and the coaching staff will be keenly watching how he adapts and evolves his offensive game as the Summer League continues and he gears up for the regular season.
