The Couple Continue To Fight Over Assets As Well As Children
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are embroiled in a new dispute over the former couple’s French winery, Château Miravel. Jolie has requested that Pitt turn over third-party communications related to a 2016 plane incident, a demand Pitt’s attorneys argue is irrelevant to the current case. According to Pitt’s legal team, Jolie’s request aims to rehash their divorce proceedings rather than address the business dispute at hand.
Pitt’s attorneys have labeled Jolie’s request as “oppressive and harassing.” They claim that Pitt has already offered to provide sufficient documents detailing the events of the flight that led to their divorce. However, Jolie rejected this offer and moved to compel more comprehensive disclosures, including sensitive communications about Pitt’s therapy, drug and alcohol testing, and other personal matters following the flight incident.

Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, argues that these communications are crucial to the proceedings, particularly concerning Pitt’s 2021 request for a non-disclosure agreement in his unsuccessful attempt to buy her share of the winery. Murphy asserts that Pitt’s reluctance to disclose these documents indicates he has something to hide, and stresses that Jolie is seeking resolution and healing for their family.
The ex-couple has been entangled in legal battles since their split in 2016. Although they were declared legally single in 2019, their divorce remains unresolved. Details of the 2016 plane incident became public in 2022 through a redacted FBI report, which revealed that Jolie accused Pitt of physical and verbal abuse during a private jet flight. Although Pitt was investigated, he was neither arrested nor charged.

The dispute over Château Miravel began in February 2022 when Pitt sued Jolie and her former company, Nouvel LLC, alleging that Jolie unlawfully sold her stake in the winery. Pitt’s lawsuit claims that they had agreed not to sell their shares without mutual consent. Conversely, Jolie’s countersuit, filed by Nouvel LLC, denies any such agreement and accuses Pitt of waging a vindictive campaign against her. Jolie’s attempt to sell her share to Pitt reportedly fell apart over a non-disclosure agreement provision meant to prevent her from discussing their marital breakdown.
In October 2021, Jolie sold Nouvel LLC and its stake in the winery to Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of Stoli Group, owned by Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler.
