The Jalisco Civil Protection authorities reported that the explosion likely originated from a malfunctioning boiler, which subsequently triggered the destruction of several large tequila storage containers, each holding 60,000 gallons of the liquor. Víctor Hugo Roldán, the general director of Jalisco’s Civil Protection Department, noted the severity of the blast, which caused significant structural damage and a rapidly spreading fire.
In response, fifty firefighters, along with the company’s internal civil protection team, rushed to the scene to combat the blaze. The fire was eventually brought under control after several hours of intense effort. Authorities confirmed that five workers perished in the explosion, and two others were injured, one of whom was seriously hurt and taken to a local hospital. The identities of the deceased have not yet been disclosed.
