Emphysema, a type of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), damages the air sacs in the lungs, leading to symptoms like shortness of breath, persistent chesty cough, frequent chest infections, and wheezing. The condition typically worsens over time. While smoking is the primary cause, emphysema can also affect non-smokers.
