The wildly popular phenomenon of “Tay-Gating,” where fans gather outside concert venues to soak up the atmosphere and sneak a peek at the performance, has been completely prohibited for her upcoming shows at Wembley Stadium.
This strict measure follows the cancellation of her Vienna concerts due to a potential terror threat targeting major events in the city.
Last month, a sea of about 50,000 fans swarmed the hills near Munich’s Olympiastadion for a massive “Tay-Gating” gathering before Swift’s Eras Tour concert. However, Wembley Stadium has made it clear that this will not be tolerated.

Just a day before Taylor’s first show in London, Wembley Stadium posted a notice on its website: “Wembley Stadium is located in a residential area. We kindly request that only ticket holders or those visiting our merchandise megastore come to the stadium to prevent disruption to local residents and businesses.”
The statement also stressed on everyone’s safe entry and exit___
“No one is allowed to stand outside any entrance or on the Olympic Steps at the front of the stadium,” warning that those without tickets will be asked to leave.
Additionally, Wembley Stadium stated that “everyone will be checked before entry” and stressed that “no weapons of any kind” will be allowed inside.
This latest security reminder comes in the wake of Taylor Swift’s decision to cancel her Vienna concerts, originally scheduled for August 8-10 at Ernst Happel Stadium, due to a suspected terror plot. On August 7, authorities revealed the arrest of two men in connection with the planned attack, with a third suspect detained the following day.

Vienna State Police Director Franz Ruf and Police Chief Gerhard Purstl disclosed that one of the arrested individuals, a 19-year-old, had allegedly sworn allegiance to ISIS. The men had reportedly taken “specific preparatory actions for a terrorist attack,” with Taylor Swift’s concerts as their intended target.
After the arrests, Austrian official Omar Haijawi-Pirchner reported that one attacker’s aim was to carry out a suicide bombing during the concert, aiming for mass casualties. Investigators found a cache of materials in the suspect’s apartment, including hydrogen peroxide, detonators, detonator cables, and homemade explosives, confirming their deadly intentions.
Swift’s Vienna shows were subsequently canceled. A message from Barracuda Music stated, “With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety.”

Despite this, the Metropolitan Police in London have assured that there is no evidence to suggest the Austrian investigation will affect Taylor Swift’s upcoming performances. In a statement to People Magazine, they emphasized that London hosts numerous high-profile events each year, with millions of attendees enjoying safe experiences.
Following her Munich shows, Taylor Swift took to social media to express her gratitude to the massive crowd that gathered outside the Olympiastadion. “The stadium crowds of 74,000 people each night were incredibly passionate and generous,” she wrote. “I had no idea that there was a huge park behind the stadium, but around 50,000 people came out to listen from the hillside both nights.”
She added, “Watching so many videos of the crowds out there fully participating in the show from afar, all that joy… I’m feeling really grateful for the unexpected memories this tour has created.”
Taylor Swift is set to kick off her five-show run at Wembley Stadium starting Thursday, August 15.
