In a thrilling finale at the Little League World Series, Florida emerged victorious over Taiwan with a 2-1 win in the eighth inning, thanks to a dramatic walk-off bunt. Taiwan had managed to keep Florida scoreless for nearly six innings, but the team from Lake Mary, a suburb of Orlando, Florida, rallied in the final moments to secure their first-ever title in nine trips to the LLWS final.
The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 after regulation, pushing the contest into extra innings where each team starts with a runner on second base. With the tension mounting in the bottom of the eighth, Florida’s Hunter Alexander executed a bunt to advance the runner. However, in the ensuing chaos, no one covered first base, and the throw to first missed its mark, allowing the winning run to cross home plate as the ball rolled into the outfield.

Taiwan, aiming for its 18th LLWS title and first since 1996, opened the scoring in the first inning. A single by Hu Yen-Chun brought in Chiu Wei-Che to give Taiwan a 1-0 lead. Despite loading the bases later in the inning, Taiwan couldn’t capitalize further, leaving Florida with an opportunity to respond.
Florida, meanwhile, struggled to find its rhythm early on, repeatedly leaving runners stranded. Their best chance came in the second inning when Taiwan’s pitcher, Ciou Zhi-Kai, allowed two walks and a hit-by-pitch, loading the bases with no outs. However, Zhi-Kai managed to induce a double play and strikeout, stifling Florida’s scoring threat.
In the fifth inning, Taiwan threatened again with runners on second and third, but Florida’s relief pitcher, Lathan Norton, managed to escape the inning without allowing any more runs. The defensive showdown continued as both teams failed to score, leading to a tense sixth inning where Florida, down to its last out, managed to tie the game. A timely hit by DeMarcos Mieses allowed Chase Anderson to score from second base, sending the game into extra innings.
Both teams had chances to seize the lead in the seventh inning, but neither could convert, setting the stage for the dramatic finish in the eighth. Taiwan’s missed opportunity in the top of the inning left the door open for Florida, and they seized their chance with the walk-off bunt.
