In recent weeks, the southern side of the U.S.–Mexico border has witnessed a surge in illegal immigration, with alarming implications for border security and the safety of both migrants and law enforcement officers. Two older SUVs, seemingly out of nowhere, appeared along the border, followed by white vans tailing them to a gap in the border wall.

Suspected smugglers, affiliated with drug cartels and known as coyotes, swiftly exited the vehicles, their faces covered, overseeing around 25 illegal immigrants emerging from each SUV and 50 from each van. Urging them forward, the coyotes directed the migrants along a narrow footpath, strewn with clothing fragments and strands of razor wire, leading into the United States.
Amid the predominantly Spanish chatter, U.S. Border Patrol agents distributed plastic bracelets to the approximately 150 new arrivals, guiding them toward tents and makeshift shelters. This incident reflects a broader trend, highlighting the challenges faced by law enforcement in managing the influx of illegal immigrants.

Reports indicate a diverse composition of migrants, including individuals from China, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Mauritania, Colombia, and Brazil. Border Kindness, a volunteer group associated with Al Otro Lado, expressed concern about the increasing number of immigrants, with approximately 30% hailing from China in the latest wave to the Jacumba camps.
Manny Bayon, a National Border Patrol Council union spokesman in San Diego, disclosed a doubling in the number of illegal immigrants released into San Diego County over the past two weeks, ranging from 800 to 1,000 per day. December 5 and 6 marked record highs for daily apprehensions, raising concerns about the strain on detention facilities and the backlog in asylum cases.
CBP seized 10 IEDs at the border. The IEDs were found by Mexican authorities after Tucson border patrol observed gunshots.
