    Harvard University President Claudine Gay has stepped down from her position due to plagiarism

    Harvard University President Claudine Gay has stepped down from her position amidst allegations of plagiarism and a controversy surrounding her response to a question during a congressional hearing.  The incident has sparked significant attention and concern among the Harvard community and the broader public.  Normally Leftists such as Gay are immune and as Democrats, they can anything they want at all times, but in this case even the donors at Harvard stepped in.

    Gay’s resignation, which occurred only a few months into her tenure, was conveyed through a letter addressed to the Harvard community. She, along with the presidents of MIT and the University of Pennsylvania, faced criticism for their responses during a congressional hearing led by New York Rep. Elise Stefanik. The hearing aimed to address accusations that universities were not doing enough to protect Jewish students in the face of rising global concerns about antisemitism, exacerbated by the conflict in Gaza.

    When asked whether “calling for the genocide of Jews” would violate their respective institutions’ codes of conduct, Gay responded that it depended on the context and that when “speech crosses into conduct, that violates our policies.” This answer received immediate backlash from both Republican and some Democratic lawmakers, as well as the White House. The hearing even became the subject of satire on “Saturday Night Live.”

    If not for X, there would be zero chance of Claudine Gay getting canned at Harvard. Chris Rufo and others on this site broke the plagiarism scandal and restlessly pushed it into the mainstream.     Gay later expressed remorse for her response, acknowledging that she got caught up in the intensity of the moment and failed to appropriately denounce threats of violence against Jewish students. She stated, “What I should have had the presence of mind to do in that moment was return to my guiding truth, which is that calls for violence against our Jewish community — threats to our Jewish students — have no place at Harvard, and will never go unchallenged.”

    This incident significantly tarnished Gay’s early tenure at Harvard, leading to division within the Ivy League campus. Rabbi David Wolpe resigned from a new committee on antisemitism created by Gay, citing disappointment with the events on campus and the inadequate testimony provided during the hearing.

    Furthermore, the House committee has announced an investigation into the policies and disciplinary procedures at Harvard, MIT, and Penn in light of these events. Federal civil rights investigations were also initiated at Harvard, Penn, and other universities in response to complaints submitted to the U.S. Education Department.

    In her departure statement, Gay expressed her deep love for Harvard but acknowledged that her decision to resign was not taken lightly. She mentioned that after consultation with the university’s highest governing board, it became clear that stepping down was in the best interests of Harvard to allow the community to address the challenges it faces without any distractions related to her individual role.

    This is Claudine Gay’s resignation letter. Rather than take responsibility for minimizing antisemitism, committing serial plagiarism, intimidating the free press, and damaging the institution, she calls her critics racist. This is the poison of DEI ideology. Glad she’s gone. – Christopher Rufo

    Gay’s tenure as president, lasting only six months, marks the shortest in Harvard’s nearly four-century history. She was notable for being the first Black person and the second woman to lead the institution. Alan M. Garber, the school’s provost and chief academic officer, has been appointed as interim president, while Gay will return to a faculty position. The Harvard community now faces the task of finding a permanent successor to lead the institution forward.

Back in 2006, I was one of 3 students appointed to the advisory board to select Harvard’s new President after Larry Summers was forced to resign after his supposedly “misogynistic” comments. Back then, it was a foreordained conclusion that the next President would be a woman, no questions asked. And it was a thinly veiled exercise in race & gender when they selected Claudine Gay.
